What is a whipstitch?

A whipstitch is a simple and versatile hand-sewing technique used to join two pieces of fabric or a fabric edge to a folded edge. It is commonly used for hemming, sewing seams, and finishing the edges of garments and other sewing projects.

To whipstitch, you need a needle and thread. Thread your needle, tie a knot at the end, and start stitching from the wrong side of the fabric. Insert the needle into one piece of fabric, then bring the needle over the edge of the other piece of fabric, insert it, and bring it back up through the first fabric. Continue stitching around the edge using a looping motion until you reach the end of the seam.

Whipstitching can be done by hand or with a sewing machine and is often used when you don't want the seam to be visible. It is a straightforward method that can be used by beginners or advanced sewers, and it can be customized with various thread colors and stitch lengths to achieve different effects.
